Affilorama: What It Was and Why It Still Comes Up
The affiliate training platform that taught a generation, and why people still search the name twenty years on.
What it was
An affiliate marketing training platform and community, and for a long stretch one of the best-known entry points into the industry. A very large number of people now working in this market started inside it. Alongside it ran Traffic Travis, an SEO tool from the same era.
What it taught
SEO, article marketing, backlinks, keyword research. Almost none of it works the way it did then, and that is the point rather than a criticism — the channel changed, as channels do.
Why the name still gets searched
- Recognition. People who learned then remember the brand, not the person. When a new product appears they search the name they know.
- Verification. Someone weighing a four-figure course looks up the seller's history, and this is what they find.
- Nostalgia and comparison. "Is this the same person" is a common and reasonable question.
| Brand | Channel taught | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Affilorama era | SEO, articles, backlinks | Traffic Travis alongside |
| Profit Helix | Digital products, memberships, Skool | Owning the product |
| Commission Cycle (2026) | Instagram, YouTube, DM automation | Bundled AI tooling |
What is Affilorama, in one paragraph
Affilorama is an affiliate marketing training platform founded by Mark Ling around two decades ago, built to take people with no background and teach them to earn commission online. It ran free and paid tiers alongside Traffic Travis, an SEO tool from the same stable, and for years it was one of the most recognised names in affiliate education.
Why the era matters when you read anything about it
Every review of Affilorama is really a review of the year it was written, because the channel it taught changed underneath it repeatedly.
Article directories disappeared. Link building of the kind taught then became a liability rather than a tactic. Search itself now puts an AI answer above the results. A review from a decade ago and a review from last year are describing genuinely different products in genuinely different markets, and neither author is wrong.
So the first thing to check on any Affilorama review, including the one on this site, is its date.
What survived, and what did not
The structural ideas outlasted the tactical ones, which is the usual pattern in this industry.
- Still true: pick a narrow niche, build something you own rather than renting a platform, understand the buyer before chasing traffic, and let content answer real questions.
- No longer true: the specific traffic tactics. Article marketing, directory submission and bulk link building describe a search engine that has not existed for years.
What people are actually looking for when they search it
Four distinct intents sit behind the same query, and they want different pages.
- Verification. Someone weighing a current four-figure course, checking how long the seller has been doing this. This is the most common one now.
- Return visits. Former members looking for a login, a forum or material they paid for years ago.
- Evaluation. People deciding whether the training is worth their time today, which is a different question from whether it was good then.
- Curiosity. People who encountered the name in a discussion and want to know what it refers to.
The track record question, which is the real one
Most people arriving here are not evaluating Affilorama at all. They are evaluating its founder, having encountered his current work, and looking for evidence of a history.
That evidence is straightforward: roughly two decades of affiliate training and product launches, run consistently, in a market where the overwhelming majority of sellers appear once and are never heard from again. Whether that makes a current product right for you is a separate question, but the longevity itself is real and it is unusual.
