The checkout-page convention, explained
Across high-ticket launches the refund terms appear on the payment screen rather than in the pre-launch material. Buyers frequently read that as evasion. It is a convention with commercial and legal reasons behind it.
Why terms live at the point of sale
They are part of the purchase agreement, and an agreement is presented at the moment of agreement. Publishing them weeks earlier attaches terms to a product whose final configuration - bonuses, session structure, platform - may still be moving.
It is also the point at which they are legally required to be visible, and meeting that requirement at that moment is ordinary rather than minimal.
What the practice is not evidence of
Poor terms. The convention is near-universal in this category and it holds for sellers with excellent guarantees and poor ones alike, which makes it useless as a signal in either direction.
Reading it as a warning sign is a common error among buyers new to the format, and it leads them to distrust the wrong thing while missing the details that do vary.
What actually varies between sellers

The third and fourth are where the real differences sit, and they are the ones buyers most often skip.
How to read a window that counts from access
Access-dated windows start when you log in rather than when you pay, which is more generous to somebody who buys early and does not open it immediately.
Purchase-dated windows do the opposite. The difference can be a fortnight in practice, and it is a single word in the terms.
Why conditional guarantees exist
Because unconditional ones are exploited at this price. A programme with a no-questions guarantee and downloadable material attracts a predictable pattern of purchase, extraction and refund.
Conditions are the seller's defence against that, and they are not unfair provided they are stated. What matters is whether you read them, not whether they exist.
What changed in this area recently
Consumer protection expectations have tightened in several markets, and platforms processing these payments now enforce disclosure more actively than they did a few years ago.
The visible effect is terms that are clearer and more conditional at once - sellers stating windows plainly while attaching requirements that were previously informal. Both movements are worth reading rather than assuming the direction.
